The Story of CNYCDE and The Family Behind It
Anabelle & Elsie
In the Spring 2006 my husband, Jason, and I (Casey) were expecting our first child and I began researching cloth diapers as I knew that I wanted to cloth diaper but wasn't sure of my options.
As my due date came closer my friends all asked me "so....still planning to wash poop diapers???" "yes." would be my answer. Then the string of horror stories would follow that went something like this.... "you know, my little brother/sister has a scar from where my dad accidentally stabbed her with a diaper pin." or "so you know you gotta dunk them in the toliet right?" or "I heard that they melt in your dryer and that the poo stays in your washer." And other various urban tales along those lines, but I was bound and determinded to cloth diaper my little one!
Having not known one person who had actually cloth diapered their baby in recent years (oh say the past 20yrs,) I turned to the internet and boy was I suprised at what I had found! I then also found myself extremely confused. What was a pocket? What was an all in one? What is PUL, What is a wetbag? Diaper Sprayer??? What were these items and why were they different and which was better and mostly WHAT DID I NEED?!?!?!?!
Being completely overwhelmed I ordered one of these, one of those, a few of that and made up my mind that my first child would not only be a baby girl but also my guinea pig into the cloth diapering world, so in January 2007 our daughter Anabella arrived and we started our cloth diaper journey. I instantly knew that the decision to cloth diaper Anabella was the best choice that we could've made when it came to diapering our baby!
After my friends had placed their bets as to how long I would last "scrubbing" out poop diapers, I slowly but surely figured out what I was doing and then my friends became curious and started asking questions like "so...can I borrow this diaper and see how it works?" and so Bebe Wamu was created in January 2007, Central New Yorks first cloth diaper store.
Bebe Wamu started off as a baby cloth diaper boutique and then shortly thereafter CNY Cloth Diaper Express followed as a diaper service.
In the Spring of 2009 my husband and I were once again expecting so I entrusted Bebe Wamu to my friend Jodi Arsenault, who now owns Bebe Wamu, to solely focus on CNY Cloth Diaper Express and my family.
On Monday, February 15, 2010, we welcomed 9lb 12oz Elsie Antoinette to our family through a wonderful homebirth experience.
